A recent survey of Indian Americans revealed that only 33% are willing to return to India, and 65% don’t want to return to their country of origin, which is not so shocking.
Those NRIs who are moving back to India are seeking to enjoy their hard-earned wealth or be closer to family. However, there are many who don’t want to return to India because of the challenges, particularly concerning their children’s education.
In the US, education until grade 12 is free, which is one of the biggest advantages for NRIs, while in India, many opt for expensive international schools, leading to a substantial financial burden.
While 76% of Indian Americans hold a favorable opinion of India, only 51% have a ‘very favorable’ view. On the other hand, 86% have a favorable opinion of the US, with just 1% holding a ‘very unfavorable’ view.
For Indian adults, one of the other primary reasons to move back to India is its lower cost of living. Interest in returning is lower among immigrants who have been in the US longer.
42% of respondents believe the US will remain the leading economic power, while only 4% think India will become the leading economic power in the next decade.
