A birthday celebration in the US ended in a devastating loss for a young Telugu techie.
Singireddy Sai Sriharikrishna, from Andhra Pradesh, drowned while swimming at a waterfall in Meramec State Park near Sullivan, Missouri, on Saturday. He had gone there with friends to mark his 26th birthday, which turned into a tragedy.
Officials said he was swimming in the pool at the base of the waterfall when he got caught in dangerous underwater conditions. Reports suggest weeds or a whirlpool-like current may have pulled him under.
His friends, including two Telugu colleagues, tried to save him immediately. But the strong currents made it impossible to reach him in time. His body was only recovered when emergency responders arrived later.
Sriharikrishna had moved to the US in 2023 for higher studies. He had recently joined Elessent Clean Technologies in St. Louis and had just begun his professional journey.
Back in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district, the news has left his family heartbroken. His father works as an auto-rickshaw driver, while his mother is employed at a primary health centre, both seeking help to bring his remains back to India for the final rites.
The incident has sent shockwaves through his native village and the Telugu community in the US. It underlines how dangerous and unpredictable such nature outings could be. His friends share that Sai loved to swim, but against strong currents he couldn’t fight and lost his life.
