It’s an extended four-day long weekend in the United States, as Independence Day falls on Tuesday this year. Many companies are allowing employees to take Monday as a half or full day off.
During this time, it is common for the Telugu community to travel to outlet malls, beaches, and other places, as it is also a school break for kids. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a fun weekend turned tragic for a Telugu family.
Rajesh Kumar Potti, originally from Addanki, Andhra Pradesh, and his family were enjoying a trip at Mickler’s Beach in Florida. While watching their kids play on the beach, Rajesh noticed his 12-year-old son in a near-drowning situation due to rip-current waves. He immediately rushed into the water to save his son, but tragically, he did not survive. Bystanders and the St. Johns County Fire Rescue responded to the scene, but it was too late.
The son was airlifted to a Children’s hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, where he is currently in the ICU. Our thoughts are with the family during this extremely difficult time. We urge our readers to donate and support the family through this challenging period.
