Donald Trump made illegal immigration a huge part of his winning election campaign this year. While some of his claims about immigrant communities eating their pets stirred up anti-immigrant feelings, we haven’t heard a detailed plan to fight the issue.
This was until Vivek Ramaswamy, likely to hold a key role in Trump’s new administration, recently shared a glimpse of what’s to come. Re-emphasizing his mission statement, he claimed that Trump will make immigration his top priority once again.

According to the Indian-American Republican leader, immigration should be strictly controlled. “Think of your country like your body. Only those who will benefit America can enter. Anyone who comes in without permission should be removed,” he told the media.
Ramaswamy also mentioned Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” rule, which requires asylum seekers to wait in Mexico until their cases are heard. He further stated that anyone entering illegally or committing crimes would be immediately deported.

Another major change in the governance is that Trump is planning to end birthright citizenship. This means children born in the US to undocumented parents would not automatically become citizens, as it used to be the case.
Having an Indian-American leader as the face of anti-immigration policies is a smart move to clear off the racist allegations that Trump faced after his remarks. However, it doesn’t offer much relief for immigrant communities who remain in fear.
