The US Embassy in India will be temporarily closed for visa application processing from July 12 to July 14. This closure will affect activities such as appointment booking, calls, and fee payments. The responsibility for visa processing in India lies with VFS Global, which will be migrating to a new platform during this period. Visa services are expected to resume on July 15.
The US Embassy informed visa applicants about this temporary closure through their official Twitter handle. VFS Global is a renowned outsourcing and technology services specialist that handles administrative tasks for visa, passport, and consular services.
Eric Garcetti, the American ambassador to India, recently emphasized improvements in the wait times for initial tourist visa interviews, which have decreased by over 50%.
The US Mission in India aims to process at least one million visas in 2023 and is already halfway towards achieving this goal. The efforts reflect their commitment to facilitating travel for Indian citizens and meeting the increasing demand for Indians traveling abroad, particularly to the United States.
