For Indian students, chasing the American dream in 2025 has become harder than ever. With visa rejections and delays at record levels across all US consulates, one student’s experience in Hyderabad reflects the growing frustration among young applicants.
Hyderabad student’s ordeal
The student attended his interview on July 10, where under new Trump administration rules, he was asked to keep all social media accounts public. As has become common, he was issued a 221(g) slip, placing his case under administrative processing.
Endless waiting period
More than 40 days have passed without any update from authorities. Students from other Indian cities who also received 221(g) slips have had their visas cleared in just a few days, leaving Hyderabad applicants questioning why the process is so inconsistent.
Crackdown on student visas
This is not an isolated incident. With tougher vetting of US visas, many Indian students are facing long delays. Some are still struggling to book visa slots, while others remain stuck in administrative processing as the fall semester start date approaches.
Students left helpless
With no clarity from officials, students are left with no option but to refresh the official portal daily, hoping to see the word “approved.” For many, this uncertainty is causing stress, financial strain, and fear of missing out on their education.
