USCIS Issues Warning

The US government is going all out on immigrants and the authorities are no longer mincing their words.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued a direct warning to literally everyone through their official X handle. They posted, “EVERYONE should be on notice. If you’re a guest in our country – act like it. Our robust social media vetting program to identify national security & public safety risks never stops. USCIS is on watch to find anything online that poses a threat to our nation & our way of life.”

The warning comes after Trump signed a similar order on day 1 of his presidency, making it mandatory to collect social media handles from visa applicants and immigrants to assess identity and “risk.” DHS also added social media fields to nine immigration forms, showing just how far agencies are willing to go to monitor people online.

Every year thousands of Indian citizens migrate to the US for work and studies. Millions apply for F-1 student visas, and H-1B work visas in the hope of living a better life in the land of opportunities.

This crackdown from the Trump administration would be brutal for the Indian diaspora as it poses a serious threat to their privacy. USCIS mentioning not just criminals but explicitly “everyone” highlights how deep-rooted this prejudice against immigrants is within the system.

The message is clear: If you are an immigrant, your posts, online memes, the content you like and follow, everything can be held against you by the authorities.
