Looks like Jio Cinema is on a roll of producing trash content
Indian filmmakers often attempt to remake Korean dramas but fall short of impressing audiences. We have seen Salman Khan’s “Radhe,” a remake of “The Outlaws,” and Sidharth Malhotra’s “Ek Villain” as a weak adaptation of the K-Drama “I Saw the Devil.” Now Sonam Kapoor comes with “Blind,” a remake of the 2011 Korean movie of the same name.

The story is about Gia, a police officer in Scotland, who loses her eyesight after a car crash that kills her brother. Meanwhile, a serial killer is roaming in the city, preying on young girls. Gia finds a motive in catching that psychopath, played by Purab Kohli.
The story looks strong on paper but has so many loopholes that they affect the overall quality of the movie. Shoma Makhija’s direction fails to evoke fear or urgency. The film lacks suspense as the killer is revealed quite early, and we are left with nothing but a cat-and-mouse chase sequence. The twists are so predictable that you can see them coming from miles away.

Talking about the performances, Sonam took on a challenging role this time, making us hopeful for a strong portrayal, something we had witnessed with “Neerja.” But it feels like we expected too much from an actor like her. Purab Kohli tries a lot, but the shallow writing makes the villain less intimidating. The movie could have been better if the makers had tried to explore the psychology behind the killer’s mind.
You can watch the movie if you haven’t seen the original yet. “Blind” releases on Jio Studios.
