Controversial BO Flop: Will It Get Love on OTT?

The Sabarmati Report OTT

The Sabarmati Report was a controversial film. Despite being marketed tremendously and gaining support from various political leaders, this Vikrant Massey starrer turned out to be a huge flop at the box office.

This 2024 release based on the Godhra train burning incident turned out to be a failure, even after being declared tax-free in many Indian states.

The makers of the film had promised to unveil the “truth” about the controversial Godhra train burning incident, which happened on February 27, 2024. It involved the Sabarmati Express train. But it received major criticism as it showed an overly diplomatic stance on the incident.

The film was made on a budget of 50 crores but could earn only about 36 crores in its lifetime. This means Massey and his team could only recover 72% of the cost spent.

The movie is said to premiere online in early January 2025.

Most Bollywood films enter the digital space eight weeks after their theatrical release. This means that we can expect the film to release on Zee5 around 15th January. However, an official confirmation from the makers is awaited.

After the huge flop of the film in the theatres, will it get some love from the OTT audience?

The OTT audience is much ruthless when it comes to analysing the film and dissecting it. They can rewind and pinpoint errors and troll the film.

Can the flop film at least recover its cost? It is hard to say.
