Randeep Hooda’s directorial debut based on the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, a controversial figure in the history of the Indian freedom movement, who has been viewed as an extremely black-and-white character in this country, is now available on the OTT platform ZEE5.
Veer Savarkar’s views have been extremely polarising and his conflict of ideologies with Gandhi is one of the highlights of this film. Hooda doesn’t hesitate to depict the polarising views of Savarkar and how he implemented his ideology of freedom through violence in his actions.
The politics and the ideologies aside, the film shows the dedication of Randeep as an actor and director in this film. The setting of British India, the depiction of the extremely cruel punishment of “Kalapani”, and the portrayal of the character carry sheer conviction in each scene.
The film was released in theatres on 22nd of March and it gained the praise of the critics with an IMDb rating of 7.7.
