Netflix India has recently tried to come up with Two potentially good stories, but both of them have bombed. We are talking about ‘Test’ and ‘Jewel Thief’.
These movies had the perfect casting and we’re promising titles, but failed to make an impression with audiences. What can be the reason?

Netflix has a huge user base in India and it is one of the most trusted OTT brands. Whenever any title is announced, people get hyped up with excitement. Even content with bad word of mouth gets a good engagement. But ‘Test’ could not attract audiences.
Test had actors like Madhavan, Siddharth and Nayanthara in the lead roles. People are expected to come and watch it just for the stars. Jewel Thief too had an interesting cast with Saif Ali Khan and Nikita Dutta, and Jaideep Ahlawat was to be seen in a completely different avatar.

Netflix has diluted the reputation it had for its originals with movies like ‘Naadaniyan’. That is one reason for these originals not working out. Jewel Thief was criticised for being a boring and painful watch, but Test had a good premise.
Comparing Test and Jewel Thief on the grounds of premise might not be very logical, but on the basis of star-power and expected viewership, both are on the same level.

Even licensed movies on Netflix are gathering better views than the originals. And the platform will have to make a comeback soon with some hard-hitting originals.
There were not many hyped OTT titles giving competition to Jewel Thief, and it had a free run for some days. So, that reason is not very credible for the failure.
Hopefully Netflix will try to rectify the Blunder it has done with these two movies with some wonderful story soon.
