Kantara 2 OTT Massive Deal: Fans Not Too Happy?

Kantara Chapter 1 OTT deal announced

Kantara: Chapter 1 is creating strong buzz ahead of its release on October 2, 2025. Directed by Rishab Shetty and produced by Hombale Films, it serves as a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara. The film explores the origins of the Bhuta Kola tradition in coastal Karnataka.

Reports by industry tracker Himesh Mankad suggest that Prime Video has acquired the digital streaming rights of Kantara: Chapter 1 for Rs. 125 crores. This stands as one of the biggest deals for a Kannada film, second only to KGF: Chapter 2. The rights cover all languages, ensuring wide accessibility.

Despite the massive deal, some fans believe Netflix would have offered a better platform for worldwide reach. They argue that the story’s cultural depth and global potential align more with Netflix, which could have expanded the film’s impact internationally.

The makers are expected to release the theatrical trailer around September 20, just before the Gandhi Jayanti release. Nearly 20 VFX studios worldwide are working on the film to deliver a world-class experience. The promotional campaign aims to be impactful, starting with a powerful trailer.

The Hindi release will be managed by Anil Thadani’s AA Films, ensuring strong presence in North India. With mythological roots, large-scale production, and Rishab Shetty’s creative vision, Kantara: Chapter 1 is being positioned as a major pan-India release in 2025.

Industry experts already predict it could become the next Rs. 1000 crore pan-India blockbuster. Fans are hopeful it avoids the disappointment associated with recent films like WAR 2 and Coolie.
