Keerthy Suresh is ready with her next, Akka, a Netflix series co-starring Radhika Apte. Set to reportedly premiere on October 30, the YRF Entertainment production marks Keerthy’s attempt to make a mark in the OTT space after some underwhelming films that she did in the past few years.
However, with audiences already questioning her recent career choices, the big question is whether this gangster drama can finally change her fortunes. Directed by Dharmaraj Shetty, Akka is set in the fictional South Indian town of Pernuru during the 1980s, where women rule a rigid matriarchal society. The story follows a powerful sisterhood of gangster queens who control the underground gold smuggling trade.
Their empire faces a crisis when a mysterious outsider arrives with a personal vendetta. It triggers a violent battle involving betrayal, fractured alliances, and a fight for survival. Tanvi Azmi also plays a key role in the series.
Keerthy’s career, meanwhile, has been already facing considerable scrutiny. Her Bollywood debut, Baby John, opposite Varun Dhawan, failed to make an impact at the box office. This also added to concerns about her recent theatrical choices.
YRF Entertainment, which has previously backed projects such as The Railway Men and Maharaj, is now banking on this ambitious female crime drama. However, following the reported disappointment surrounding Alia Bhatt’s Alpha, questions remain about whether the production house can deliver the OTT success Keerthy needs.
