Priyadarshi and Niharika NM’s buddy comedy Mithra Mandali is now preparing for its digital release on Amazon Prime Video, and this time the film arrives with a fresh edit. After receiving feedback from audiences, the team re-edited the film. Priyadarshi announced on X that the OTT cut will be a “brand new version” with improved humour and sharper pacing. The film streams from November 6.
The move comes after Mithra Mandali failed badly in theatres. From the very first shows, the film received harsh reviews, which killed its box-office prospects. With a Diwali clash alongside Telusu Kada starring Siddu Jonnalagadda and K Ramp starring Kiran Abbavaram, the film never gained traction. Now, the makers hope the re-edit will appeal to OTT viewers.
However, reviving a film that struggled at a fundamental level may not be easy. Editing can fix pacing issues, but it cannot repair weak writing, forced humour and characters that fail to connect. OTT audiences are highly selective and quick to react. Even a film like Little Hearts, praised in theatres, faced trolling after releasing online.
So, expecting Mithra Mandali to suddenly shine on OTT after a poor theatrical run may be overly optimistic. Only time will tell if the new edit helps the film find a second chance.
