Why OG Failed to Repeat Theater Magic on OTT?

Pawan Kalyan OG Netflix performance

Pawan Kalyan’s film They Call Him OG, directed by Sujeeth, enjoyed a strong box office run. While the general audience gave mixed reviews, his loyal fans celebrated the movie in a big way across Telugu states, especially during the opening weekend. Sujeeth clearly made OG as a fan-focused entertainer, and Thaman’s powerful background score added to the mass appeal.

The film started streaming on Netflix four weeks after its theatrical release. As per Netflix’s latest official numbers, OG secured 3.2 million views in its first week. Although the film created buzz, the streaming performance did not meet expectations.

To compare, Guntur Kaaram, despite mixed talk, earned 5.3 million views, and War 2 managed 3.4 million views despite its failure. Even Nani’s HIT 3 recorded 4.2 million views, while Devara stood at 2.2 million. With OG’s strong theatrical hype and Pawan Kalyan’s massive comeback buzz, many expected it to deliver much higher OTT numbers.

While OG did not dominate OTT the way it dominated theatres, it still performed well in terms of rankings. The movie became the number one Indian film on Netflix this week, mainly due to lack of new major releases. It also entered the Top 10 in 11 countries and placed in the Top 5 non-English films globally, which is a solid achievement.

Released after doubts from the Hari Hara Veera Mallu failure, OG proved itself as a complete fan movie and won big in cinemas. On OTT however, while fans continue to support it, the general audience response has not been as enthusiastic, leading to a slower streaming momentum.
