JioHotstar and Neeraj Pandey’s latest installment, Special Ops Season 2, is receiving both constructive criticism and outright backlash.
As an audience, we must remember that a series created purely for entertainment should not be scrutinized as if it were spreading propaganda.
Some right-wing reviewers are targeting the web series simply because Himmat Singh’s team includes characters from minority communities like Ruhani, Sahil, Abbas, and Faruk. Their main objection seems to be the supposed “whitewashing” of minorities. But in a fictional story, why fight over something so trivial?
The outrage largely stems from the fact that the show depicts members of minority communities in a positive and patriotic role.
We must accept that every community, majority or minority, has both good and bad individuals. Condemning a fictional series with hatred is unnecessary.
Instead, we should embrace the spirit of secularism and celebrate the diverse aspects of society that such stories bring to light.
