One of the biggest sporting tournaments in the world is currently happening in the form of the ongoing FIFA World Cup and it has registered a rather weak response from the Indian demographic.
Coming to the topic now, leading OTT platform, ZEE5 has acquired the streaming rights of the FIFA World Cup in India, and they are streaming it on that exclusive platform now.
However, problem is coming with the kind of operations that are being displayed by ZEE5 and there are a lot of negative reactions on the same on social media.
Firstly, ZEE5 has mandate subscription fees even to watch the highlights of the World Cup matches, which is something strange. If they had published the highlights on all platforms, it could have added to the gaining fetch of ZEE5 itself, but they decided against it.
On top of that zee5 has now introduced a new regulation where public platforms and pubs must take license from the exclusive OTT partner ZEE5 before screening these World Cup games at a large capacity.
Generally, during IPL Disney + Hotstar benefits a lot from passive marketing by not obstructing public platforms from screening the matches in public places. It appears that ZEE5 is against this principal as well.
Currently, there is so much that is being said against this leading OTT platform regarding the biggest sporting tournament in the world, and we have to patiently wait and see how things would turn up in the near future.
