After leaving a strong impact on audiences and the box office, reports suggest that one of the most controversial films in recent times, The Kerala Story, is now being expanded into a franchise. The makers have confirmed that a sequel will hit theatres soon.
Filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Sunshine Pictures Limited have officially announced the release date of the next instalment titled Beyond The Kerala Story. The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on February 27, 2026.
The announcement was made through a motion poster that confirmed the release date. The poster also offered an early glimpse into the film’s intense and serious tone, hinting at a deeper and more disturbing narrative than the first part.
The poster carried a strong message suggesting that the story goes beyond what was earlier shown. It emphasised that some truths cannot be silenced and that certain stories continue despite repeated attempts to discredit them.
According to the makers, Beyond The Kerala Story revisits real life accounts and focuses on the voices of victims whose stories often remain unheard. The film introduces new female leads, with performances said to be organic and rooted in lived realities.
Unlike the original film, which largely focused on Kerala, the sequel expands its scope across Bharat. The makers aim to present true stories from multiple regions while maintaining a grounded and documentary style storytelling approach.
The Kerala Story released in Indian theatres in 2023 and became one of the most discussed films of the year. Much of the attention it received was driven by its shock value and the intense political debate it triggered nationwide.
Years later, despite limited demand for a sequel, the makers have decided to move ahead with a second chapter. The decision has once again sparked discussion around intent, relevance, and audience expectations.
In recent times, politically themed films like Dhurandhar have been better crafted in terms of execution. Audiences now expect strong technical quality along with clear and compelling storytelling.
If Beyond The Kerala Story follows the path of poorly executed propaganda driven films, viewers may reject it regardless of the message. To succeed, the film must rely on strong narratives, convincing performances, and impactful cinematography.
