The trend of South films being made in Bollywood is not new. It is something that started years ago. The biggest difference now is that the remakes are accepted if they offer something new. But if they don’t, they are rejected.
Latest reports have revealed that three more remakes have entered development and, as usual, they will be adapted from three South films. Although the titles, cast, or production company details remain unavailable, this has now raised intense criticism towards Bollywood.
Netizens wrote on social media that Bollywood writers are now running out of ideas and new talent should be given a chance now. They further stated that most of the producers do not understand the requirements of today’s audience and the situation of the market.
People even pointed out the bad situation of Bollywood, saying that there was a period when multiple hits or blockbusters were recorded in a single year. However, they expressed disappointment with the fact that it has changed now, as the makers are preferring to make films on themes that they like instead of looking at what the theatre-going people wish to see.
Social media users said that in a situation where Bollywood is delivering only a few hits in a year, remakes can turn out to be very risky. Some even expressed their frustration by asking why writers are not coming up with some fresh ideas. Apart from this, comparisons are being made with South films that have not worked at all.
People gave examples of recent films that received negative reviews, like Toxic and The Paradise. They wrote that although audiences have hated these films, they were still fresh concepts, and the makers of that industry will continue bringing more ideas, and one of them will be accepted at some point.
Some questioned why the makers are not learning a lesson from the failures. They recalled the underwhelming response to remakes like Bholaa, Haiwaan, Selfiee, and more, addressing the fact that even superstars are being rejected by the audience if they appear in a remake.
Meanwhile, trade experts and critics still believe that remakes can work. However, they said that the writers adapting the screenplays have to bring something new and that multiple remakes should not be done in a year.
Ongoing rumors have linked the remake reports to a few films. This includes Akshay Kumar‘s Mauja Hi Mauja, which is reported to be a remake of Sankranthiki Vasthunam. Apart from this, Salman Khan’s Monster is also said to be a remake of Ram Charan’s Dhruva. Both films have been produced by Dil Raju. But none of the rumors are confirmed yet.
