South Indian cinema has had massive hits in RRR, KGF 2 and Pushpa and now everyone is talking about Bollywood’s dominance.

But despite that, Bollywood still leads because of its global reach, wider market and consistent box office pull.

According to box office experts, Bollywood stars still top the chart in cumulative earnings. Shah Rukh Khan leads with ₹2672 crore (Pathaan, Jawan, Dunki), followed by Aamir Khan at ₹2486 crore (Dangal, Thugs of Hindostan, Laal Singh Chaddha).

Among South stars, Allu Arjun (₹2390 crore), Prabhas (₹2078 crore) and NTR (₹1875 crore) are catching up. Ranbir Kapoor (₹1580 crore), Ram Charan (₹1569 crore), Yash (₹1491 crore), Vijay (₹1375 crore) and Rajinikanth (₹1023 crore) are still strong contenders. But Bollywood still leads.

According to box office experts, Bollywood’s global reach is a major factor with films like Dangal and Pathaan doing well overseas.

Hindi’s dominance means a bigger audience and multiplexes mean premium collections. South cinema is growing but still has to break into key international markets.

With Pushpa, KGF and RRR, South films are closing the gap by making mass appeal blockbusters. But Bollywood’s consistency in making big films keeps it ahead.

Experts say if Bollywood doesn’t adapt to changing audience taste, the power shift could happen sooner than expected.




For now Bollywood is the top in box office and global market. But with Pushpa 2, Salaar 2 and Ramayan coming up, South is not going to back off. Next few years will decide if Bollywood stays on top or South takes over.
