South cinema has been consistently producing top tier larger-than-life films of epic scale. Needless to say, Prabhas has been the pioneer of the same with films like Salaar and Kalki.
The issue with Bollywood superstars who were earlier a much bigger deal than south stars is that they have resorted to a safe game.
For instance, we have SRK, Salman Khan, Amir, and Akshay Kumar who are all sticking to commercial tropes. We can’t expect a film like Kalki from them as they are not even remotely close to this thought process.
SRK has Jawan and Pathan but these are routine commercial popcorn films that come and go. They hold no value like a Kalki, RRR, or Pushpa.
Salman has been in the commercial track from the start while Akshay is struggling to get even Rs 5 crore openings with all the commercial films he has been doing.
Trying rooted or larger-than-life films is a scarcity up north and this is exactly where the big stars of Bollywood are seriously lacking.
Is it because these stars don’t trust them enough with such mega-budget films with the fear of incurring losses? We don’t quite know the answer.
For now, this safe game that is being played by these Bollywood stars is playing into the hands of Tollywood stars who are appeasing the Bollywood folk big time with peculiar attempts.
