Ram Charan and Sukumar are joining hands once again after the blockbuster success of Rangasthalam. Their second collaboration, tentatively titled RC17, was recently launched with a grand pooja ceremony, raising expectations among fans and trade circles.
However, the project has already created considerable curiosity, not just because of the blockbuster combination but also because of Sukumar’s unexpected choice of subject.
Until the official announcement, many believed Sukumar would explore another period backdrop with rawness and realism, similar to Rangasthalam or Pushpa. Some even speculated that he was planning a gangster drama, especially after Ram Charan‘s recent look sparked discussions on social media.
But Sukumar reportedly surprised everyone by choosing a devotional subject, something very few expected from the director.
Known for his unconventional storytelling, complex characters and intense commercial dramas, Sukumar‘s decision to step into devotional territory has naturally raised several questions about the film’s treatment.
It remains to be seen whether he will present the subject as a full-fledged devotional drama or blend spiritual elements with his trademark commercial storytelling.
Meanwhile, the film’s regular shooting is unlikely to begin anytime soon.
According to the latest industry buzz, the makers are yet to finalize the complete cast and several other important aspects of the project. As a result, shooting is reportedly expected to begin only in February or March next year.
The team is said to be concentrating on casting and pre-production before moving ahead with the regular schedule. Even the music director has reportedly not been finalized yet.
Mythri Movie Makers is backing this ambitious project on a massive budget.
The biggest question is whether Sukumar can turn a devotional backdrop into another powerful commercial entertainer without losing his unique storytelling style. For now, RC17 remains one of the most intriguing upcoming Telugu projects.
