Imran Khan’s recent participation in the demonstrations in Mumbai, leading up to his arrest, has brought his films back into the limelight. One of them is Delhi Belly, which is even considered to be the biggest hit in the actor’s short-lived career in Bollywood.
Abhinay Deo, who directed the black comedy, recently appeared for an interview, where he responded to the possibilities of a sequel. He said that although he develops an idea for a sequel every week, there are a few issues that might create big hurdles.
Abhinay recalled that UTV was involved with the first film. However, the company was later acquired by Disney and Abhinay stated that the latter might object to the abusive language that is expected to be used in the film.
Abhinay said that a film like this can never be made without such language, adding that the first entry took nine years for Akshat Varma to write and develop into a perfect script. Abhinay revealed that he has spoken to Aamir Khan, the producer of the film, about the sequel, and the superstar asked him to find Akshat and tell him to complete the script.
While Abhinay stated in the interview that the script is being prepared by Akshat, netizens believe that a sequel might happen after such a long time. People even expressed their excitement, writing that this is a film that can bring Aamir Khan Productions back to the position where they used to deliver multiple hits.
A few others reacted to Abhinay’s concerns about the abuses, saying that even if Disney allows them to go ahead with everything, CBFC is expected to ruin the experience as they have a habit of cutting a lot of things, even in cases where they pass a film with an A certificate.
On the other hand, a particular section believes that the sequel will work if the original team is brought back. But they even expressed concern regarding the age factor of the actors, which might not work in favour of the storyline. A few others advised Abhinay and Aamir to find some new talent and give them a chance or choose someone from the lineup of today’s younger actors.
Aamir Khan Productions has been dealing with failures for a long time. Amid this, the possibility of a Delhi Belly sequel is good news for them. But it remains to be seen whether the makers are genuinely interested in pursuing the idea or if everything that is happening for now is just a casual discussion.
