Dharma Production has been a big name in the entertainment industry ever since its foundation in 1979 by Yash Johar. His son – the famous director and producer Karan Johar now leads the production house.
But recently it has been announced that Adar Poonawala’s Serene Productions has bought 50% stakes of the venture. He will invest 1000 crore rupees on the production house and Karan will retain the remaining 50% ownership.
Fans claim that this big change could be the result of major flops in the last 5 years. Due to many controversies surrounding Karan Johar, the production company has faced losses.
Films like Jigra, Kalank, Student of the Year 2, Drive, Liger, Kill, Yodha, Bad Newz and many more have added to the downfall of the Dharma brand.
Only Brahmastra, Sooryavanshi and Good Newz were some big hits in the past. Dharma Productions hopes to regain its brand value with pan-India projects like Sarzameen and the later Brahmastra franchise.
The future of the Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment seemed quite stressful. Fans hope that this new acquisition can bring relief to their favourite film production house.
