Haiwaan is finally releasing in theatres on September 11, 2026. Marking the return of Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar after Bhooth Bangla, the movie is a remake of the director’s own Malayalam film, Oppam.
While the hit combo’s collaboration was supposed to attract audiences, the situation has turned out to be something else. The pre-sales have now confirmed that there is no buzz for the film, and audiences are hardly interested in watching it. This has now created concern among Akshay’s fans.
Apart from Akshay, the movie even features Saif Ali Khan playing the lead role. As of now, early reports say that Haiwaan has been a complete washout in pre-sales in India. The situation is the same overseas, and now it has to depend entirely on the response to its content.
Insiders have also revealed that with one day left for the release, the movie has sold only 2.7k tickets in the national chains. This is lower than Akshay’s Sarfira, which also did not work at the box office.
The ongoing situation has left a lot of trade experts in shock. They are surprised to see that audiences are not willing to see a film of Akshay directed by Priyadarshan. Notably, the trailer and teaser promised a lot of thrill and intensity, and despite the glimpses of the same, people want to avoid the film now.
A majority of social media users reacted by saying that the main reason for this is Akshay’s decision to do a remake. They said that Akshay has failed to understand that original content is being rewarded by the audience nowadays.
However, Akshay’s fans had something else to say about this. Most of them noted that the teaser and trailer were not attractive enough to create excitement among the audience. Trade experts stated that although the second and third day will give some boost, the movie needs to have positive word-of-mouth to survive for a long time.
