Just a few more days till its release, Housefull 5 has once again stirred fans, but this time, it’s for suspicion instead of excitement.
The same PR articles that once claimed the multi-starrer film had a budget of ₹375 crore are now reporting that the budget is mysteriously ₹225 crore. Naturally, fans feel something is fishy.
They pointed out how it’s quite evident that the makers saw the dull hype around the film and conveniently reported a lower budget.
A ₹375 crore budget is typically reserved for films heavy on VFX. Even biggies like Tiger 3, Pathaan, Jawan, and KGF 2 didn’t have that kind of budget, fans noted.
With sluggish advance bookings, many users suspect the makers realised that quoting ₹375 crore as the budget would mean the film needs to earn at least ₹700–800 crore to even be considered a hit, which seems highly unlikely.
Still, giving them the benefit of the doubt, users pointed out that even a ₹225 crore budget for a film shot mostly on a ship is too high. It doesn’t take a trade analyst or filmmaker to see that.
Many questioned how Sajid Nadiadwala is expecting the film to work.
To recover ₹225 crore, the film would technically need to make ₹100+ crore in its first weekend!
Given that the horror-comedy genre is a risky move, and Akshay Kumar’s box office pull isn’t what it used to be, the makers seem to be diving into a pool that might be hard to climb out of.
Other users argue that the film’s actual budget is much lower, and such a high number is being quoted purely for PR purposes — nothing more.
Now, will the film recover the budget it claimed? That’s something we’ll know soon enough. Till then, fans and industry insiders alike have their eyes on Housefull 5.
