Vicky Kaushal Chhaava Rated Without Injustice

In recent years, Bollywood has brought many Maratha leaders to life on the big screen, showcasing their bravery, sacrifice, and legacy.

Among the most notable portrayals are Ajay Devgn as Tanaji Malusare in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, Ranveer Singh as Peshwa Bajirao I in Bajirao Mastani, and now Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in Chhaava.

Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji was a huge hit. His performance was intense and patriotic. He played the role with a stoic presence and portrayed Tanaji as a fearless warrior.

However, his character felt somewhat one-dimensional. It only focused on valour without any deeper emotional complexities.

Ranveer Singh’s Bajirao Mastani was a stark contrast. His portrayal of Bajirao was layered and balanced intellect with emotional turmoil.

He was a fearless warrior and a passionate lover which made his character more nuanced and engaging.

Ranveer’s electrifying screen presence and performance made Bajirao an unforgettable character who was loved by the audience.

Vicky Kaushal now steps into the spotlight as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in Chhaava.

His performance is commanding, with powerful dialogue delivery and intensity, particularly in the climax.

However, much like Ajay’s Tanaji, Vick’s character also feels somewhat one-dimensional. It turned the film somewhat into an Amar Chitra Katha adaptation instead of a deeply textured historical drama.

While his portrayal is strong, a more nuanced approach could have made his character stand out more.

Despite these differences, Vicky Kaushal’s depiction of Sambhaji Maharaj has struck an emotional chord with audiences, as his pain and sacrifice feel more relatable than the other two.

With Chhaava’s strong box office opening, the legacy of Maratha warriors in Bollywood continues to thrive.
