Ram Charan and Buchi Babu’s much-hyped multi-sports drama Peddi is out and has opened to mixed reviews and mixed word of mouth across the board.
Keeping Andhra Pradesh and Telangana aside for a moment, as the film enters its second week, its overseas performance has come as a major shock to the makers.
The North America run, in particular, has turned out to be highly disappointing and is expected to leave buyers with heavy losses. Reports suggest the region is staring at nearly 50% losses.
Peddi movie roducer Satish Kilaru openly acknowledged the failure. Speaking to the media, he admitted that overseas continues to remain a case study and said they are still unsure why the film did not connect there. He also hinted that the market dynamics are changing, though he did not elaborate further.
The Hindi version has also delivered a similarly underwhelming performance. Addressing the North market response, the producer said only a few films manage to trigger that kind of fire among audiences, and they are not sure why Peddi could not generate that momentum.
At a time when producers avoid addressing failures publicly, seeing a first-time producer sit before the media and take questions about the film’s performance is a refreshing change. After all, these numbers and realities are already known within trade and media circles.
“Overseas మాత్రం అనుకున్నంత రాలేదు”
“ఇది మాకు కూడా Case Study లాంటిదే”
