Kareena Kapoor Khan is reportedly set to break more cinematic stereotypes with her next film. Yes, this time, she will be paired opposite a Gen Z actor who is nearly two decades her junior.
However, we do not know much about this as the project is still under wraps. Reportedly, the film, featuring a quirky narrative by Hussain Dalal, will feature Kareena in the role of a ghost.
For the unversed, Hussain is best known for his work on Brahmastra, so there’s no denying the upcoming project will have an excellent script too.
If confirmed, the casting will mark one of the boldest moves in mainstream Hindi cinema.
Several actors have earlier challenged age norms in the film industry. But having an actress to do that is definitely breaking some more stereotypes.
The young male lead, rumoured to be in his early 20s, has not yet been officially revealed. The film’s tone reportedly blends supernatural fun with a fresh take on the ghost genre. This is seriously something rarely attempted in Bollywood with a female lead.
The pairing news also comes amidst ongoing debates about age-gap casting in Bollywood. The latest example is Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, where he’s cast opposite 18-year-old Sara Arjun.
Of course, the industry continues to normalize older male actors romancing younger women. But Kareena’s upcoming role may just turn the tables and bring in a refreshing, much-needed change.
