The trailer for Imtiaz Ali’s next film, Main Wapas Aaunga, is out, and it feels a lot like his past movies. If you have watched his previous work, this trailer will offer nothing new.
The story is about a young man whose grandfather is on his deathbed. The grandfather tells his old love story to his grandson, so the movie goes back and forth between the present day and the Partition era.
This setup is very similar to Love Aaj Kal, which used the exact same format of mixing a modern love story with a past one. It feels like the director is repeating his old ideas. The trailer also reveals almost the whole plot, which leaves very little reason for people to go to the theaters.
The lead actors, Diljit Dosanjh and Sharvari Wagh, do not show any good chemistry on screen. Diljit is becoming predictable because he plays similar Sikh characters in every film with very little change in his acting.
Trade experts do not expect the film to do well at the box office. There is no real excitement about the movie among regular viewers, and Diljit does not have a big pull in the Hindi market. The film looks like it will fail in theaters and might only get attention later when it releases on OTT platforms.
