Directors have a way of making films. A film is incomplete without a director. The film industry has given us some of the most talented directors who have managed to establish themselves with their flawless work. One of them is Madhur Bhandarkar.
The 55-year-old’s career dates back to the 90s and his projects have always attempted to bring the real face of the society where we live today. Fashion is considered to be one of the best works in his career as it focused on the rise and fall of models. It additionally contributed to bringing success for Priyanka Chopra after the actress delivered a lineup of box office bombs.
In his latest interview with Bollywood Hungama, Madhur Bhandarkar stated that Fashion deserves a sequel considering how the modeling industry has changed over the years. He told the outlet:
“As a filmmaker, I feel I have a lot of material and hence, it can be turned into a show, spanning a couple of seasons. But it also is apt for a film. Hence, nothing has been decided yet. The subject, however, is interesting.”
Bhandarkar said that social media has taken around the world and people hardly get to hear about supermodels today. He claimed that the position has been taken over by Bollywood celebrities and he wants to cover the same in Fashion 2.
Notably, the 2008 film was praised for the performances of the lead cast. Bhandarkar also worked on the script along with Ajay Monga and Anuraadha Tewari.
In case a sequel is made, it needs a strong screenplay like the first one. Bhandarkar’s writing skills are known to everyone and considering that, we can expect that he would try to bring the reality of the world of glamour. Even if that happens, the choice of the audience has changed now and it will depend on whether they are ready to accept such a subject.
Apart from this, we need Bhandarkar back in the director’s seat since the theme would be portrayed perfectly on screen only under his supervision. Furthermore, another requirement for the sequel’s success would be the return of the original cast members, which seems unlikely for now.
Bollywood has witnessed a rise in situations where certain stars are having problems with each other. Although such reports have not come out in terms of Chopra and Ranaut, the duo are currently busy with other projects. Chopra is mostly active in Hollywood now and is switching her time between Mumbai and Los Angeles.
On the other hand, Bhandarkar’s last two films have been released through OTT platforms. It can be said that he has maintained a distance from the big screen. But that does not mean that the audience has forgotten his work. Since he had already hinted towards Fashion 2, the public would surely love to buy tickets for his film again.
