The ongoing week was expected to provide a boost to the box office with the release of multiple films. However, the results have been mixed, with none of the new releases delivering the kind of impact many had anticipated. The performance of these films has raised fresh questions about audience preferences and theatre attendance.
Released with limited pre-release buzz, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai opened with collections of Rs. 7.40 crores. While the figure is respectable, it falls short of Varun Dhawan’s previous film, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, which reportedly opened at Rs. 9.25 crores. Reports also suggest that this marks one of the lower openings in Varun Dhawan’s career.
The film has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Some viewers have criticised its humour, while others have pointed to the extensive use of old songs instead of original compositions. These factors could potentially affect the film’s performance in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Bandar, directed by Anurag Kashyap, has struggled to attract a wide audience due to limited screen availability. Despite receiving stronger reviews than some of the other releases, the film collected Rs. 58 lakhs on its opening day. Positive word of mouth may now play a crucial role in improving its theatrical prospects.
Ram Charan’s Peddi began its box office journey on a strong note, collecting Rs. 43 crores, including premiere earnings from the previous day. However, the film witnessed a notable decline on its second day, earning Rs. 23 crores. The Hindi market contributed Rs. 5.15 crores, despite extensive promotional efforts across North India.
The performance of Peddi in regional markets has also drawn attention. Collections in Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada markets have reportedly remained below expectations. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether the film can regain momentum through positive audience response.
Among international releases, Masters of the Universe entered theatres with limited hype compared to other English-language films. The film opened with Rs. 1.35 crores at the box office. Without the support of an established franchise presence among local audiences, its long-term theatrical performance remains uncertain.
Trade experts have identified the crowded release calendar as a major factor affecting box office numbers. According to industry observers, audiences are increasingly selective about their theatre visits, especially with rising ticket prices. The abundance of options has also contributed to confusion among moviegoers.
Competition at the box office remains intense, and several major releases are lined up in the coming weeks. With changing audience behaviour and strong competition, it remains difficult to predict which film will eventually emerge as the biggest box office success.
