Haiwaan arrived in theatres after a long wait. Expectations were sky-high for a lot of reasons, specifically because it marked another collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan. As it is out now on the big screen, netizens and critics have shared their reactions on social media.
Most of them are unhappy with the content. A majority stated that the film offers nothing new and the writing is not up to the mark. Some said that the humor added between serious moments looks forced and unnecessary.
The main criticism has been towards the climax, as it does not leave any impact on the audience. A few others wrote that the director has tried his best to add some engaging moments. However, those scenes have been destroyed due to the addition of unnecessary elements that do not work at all.
The length has also been criticized, with some pointing out that the execution could have been a little better. Many people have expressed disappointment with the storyline, noting that it looks outdated as the original film came out almost ten years ago and there is no freshness in the screenplay.
On the other hand, Akshay Kumar’s performance has received appreciation. Saif Ali Khan’s work, despite being compared with Mohanlal, has been praised, with people saying that the character appears in a new form and does not try to imitate the original.
The reactions have proved, for now, that Haiwaan is going to have a tough time at the box office. Talking about the situation on the first day, morning shows at many places were reportedly cancelled due to low audience or no audience at all.
Trade experts said that it happened due to the less impactful trailer and very weak promotional strategy from the makers. As of now, the film is expected to start at Rs. 3-5 crores. In this situation, it remains to be seen if Haiwaan will survive for multiple weeks in theatres while facing competition from other successful films like Mirzapur: The Movie and Hanuman Ansh.
