Bollywood fans have been eager to see Rajkumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor reunite after their 2018 blockbuster Sanju. Their next collaboration a biopic on an athlete’s life had created massive buzz, but the project has now been delayed.
Industry sources confirm that the film, earlier in active development, has been pushed to 2027. Hirani reportedly wants more time to refine the script to meet the expectations set by Sanju.
Ranbir Kapoor’s schedule is also packed with high-profile projects, including Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War. Both actor and director have agreed to revisit the project only when the script and timing align perfectly.
Meanwhile, Rajkumar Hirani is shifting focus to his next major venture a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, with Aamir Khan in the lead role.
Filming is expected to begin in 2026, and insiders say Aamir has already started early preparations. He is reportedly growing his look and will begin workshops by December 2025.
This marks the first time Hirani and Aamir are collaborating on a real-life story, and both aim to bring Phalke’s journey to the screen with scale and authenticity.
With two massive biopics in the pipeline one with Ranbir Kapoor and another with Aamir Khan Rajkumar Hirani’s next few years look packed. Fans may have to wait, but expectations are sky-high that both films will be worth it.
