Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday, November 4, to enquire about the damage caused by Cyclones Arnab and Murasu, which affected the state within a week.
During the telephone conversation, Modi sought details about the situation in cyclone-hit districts, the extent of damage and the relief measures undertaken by the state government.
Chandrababu explained that successive cyclones had caused significant losses to farmers, with heavy rainfall and strong winds damaging agricultural crops across several districts.
The Chief Minister also informed Modi about damage to roads, electricity infrastructure and other public facilities. He said the state was working to restore essential services and provide assistance to affected families.
Chandrababu requested the Prime Minister to extend appropriate financial assistance from the Centre to help the state recover from the damage and accelerate rehabilitation efforts.
Modi appreciated the Andhra Pradesh government’s handling of the cyclone situation. He praised Chandrababu for maintaining constant vigilance and effectively coordinating precautionary and relief measures.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the administration’s efforts to minimise difficulties faced by people during the two cyclones.
The conversation comes as Andhra Pradesh continues its recovery operations following the successive weather events. The state government has been assessing agricultural and infrastructure losses while seeking additional central assistance.
The Chief Minister had also approached Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding cyclone-related losses and the need for financial support.
With farmers facing crop damage and several public facilities requiring restoration, the state government is looking to the Centre for assistance in completing relief and reconstruction work.
