Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha has finally arrived in theatres on September 25, 2026. Featuring Dev Sharma and Anjali Arora in the lead roles, the film was expected to do something good, considering the theme. However, the results turned out to be worse than expected.
The film had a disastrous start at the box office, collecting only Rs. 10 lakhs on the first day. Although a little boost is expected on the weekend, it is not sufficient for the movie to record any good numbers anymore.
Trade experts pointed out that audiences were hardly aware of the film before its release in theatres. They said that the makers did not even focus on the promotions. Netizens reacted on social media, saying that the makers avoided the promotions possibly because they knew that this would not work at all.
A particular section had a different opinion. They addressed the fact that even Hanuman Ansh had a bad start, but it slowly emerged as a big blockbuster. The same people said that the biggest issue with Dev and Anjali’s film was that it started creating a negative opinion in people’s minds when the trailer arrived.
The glimpse of the film received heavy criticism, and the content did not change the opinion at all. The dialogues, visuals, and everything else have been rejected by the audience.
On the other hand, a particular section also questioned the CBFC, asking how the movie was allowed to be released. They said that it is an insult to Ramayana, questioning why there were no boycott calls compared to what is usually done when the movies of big stars are released.
Some people also stated that the release timing was bad. Hanuman Ansh is already doing well at the box office. The Vvaan has attracted a particular section, and Mirzapur: The Movie has continued to record good numbers. Avengers: Endgame Encore has also opened to a fantastic response. Amid this, Dev and Anjali’s film had no chance of survival.
The film is expected to deal with the worst phase in the upcoming week as Drishyam The Conclusion will take away all the screens. Let’s see how long it will continue to run at the big screen.
