Saif Ali Khan, an impeccable actor hailed for his ability to hop from a charming hero to a complicated anti-hero, reflected on a phase in his career, more specifically about Omkara which is said to drive the Indian film industry and is remembered for its intensive script and brilliant performances.

While he performed method acting to get into character as Langda Tyagi, the director Vishal Bhardwaj threw a challenging proposition: he was to do a particular scene completely naked.

In a candid conversation on Neha Dhupia’s podcast, he stated that he won’t take the role because it was quite a bold request to do at the time. He joked that he would do it only if Vishal and the cinematographer did the same, acknowledging that such loud artistic moments often come with nervousness.

In hindsight, however, he admitted to-doing-a-naked role. “But you know what, looking back, I should have done it; it was just too new an idea.” This goes a long way not just in taking stock of Saif’s ground, but it’s also revealing how Bollywood masculinity has developed.

Considering that John Abraham broke the ice with a memorable shot of him half-naked in Dostana with other more daring performances as a result, Saif knows that being vulnerable could have made him something of a pioneer in this regard.




His thought is a reminder to be bold in the creative world and to encourage upcoming generations of actors to break free in pushing other storylines in Indian movies.
