SRK: India’s Biggest Soft Power—But Why Ignored?

Shah Rukh Khan India Biggest Soft Power

Veteran Telugu actor and politician Nandamuri Balakrishna was honoured with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award on April 28th, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.

Following the ceremony, Balakrishna expressed his gratitude through a post on his official Facebook page. He described receiving the Padma Bhushan as a deeply emotional and humbling experience.

He said it was a blessing to serve the world of cinema and follow in the footsteps of his legendary father.

Upon hearing the news, many fans took to social media to share their thoughts.

While many congratulated the actor, others questioned why someone like Shah Rukh Khan hasn’t received the same honour yet.

Shah Rukh Khan was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award, for his contribution to cinema, whereas Balakrishna received the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest.

Fans argued that Shah Rukh Khan is an actor who represents Indian cinema globally. Films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Baazigar have crossed borders, and Shah Rukh has earned a place in the hearts of people worldwide.

Many even said that he is one of India’s biggest soft power figures, yet has only been honoured with the fourth-highest civilian award. They think that Shah Rukh Khan and his impact have been ignored by the government.

While their sentiments are understandable, fans must remember that these awards are granted based on a range of contributions beyond just films. The government must have found Balakrishna deserving based on the broader scope of his work and impact.
