Shah Rukh Khan’s King is set for a theatrical release at the end of the year and has already generated strong buzz. As per Pinkvilla, the film has now triggered a major competition among studios keen to secure its India distribution rights.
While Yash Raj Films is already associated as the overseas distributor, it has also entered the race for domestic rights. Pen Marudhar, Jio Studios, and PVRInox are currently seen as the leading contenders in this high-stakes deal.
According to Pinkvilla, an advance of around Rs. 200 crores is being offered, which is the highest so far. Pen Marudhar is said to be ahead at present, largely due to its long-standing association with Red Chillies Entertainment.
PVRInox remains a strong player, given its position as one of the largest multiplex chains in the country. Jio Studios is also pushing aggressively, aiming to close the year strongly after the expected success of Dhurandhar 2.
With nearly ten months still left for the release, the final winner of this distribution battle will be known soon. Fans remain excited, but trade experts and critics are questioning whether the film can live up to the massive hype.
A section of the audience has also raised concerns about the Christmas week release. Many recall the muted response to Hindi films during this period over the past two years.
Some have even suggested a date change, as King releases just six days after Avengers: Doomsday, which is expected to perform well in India. With both positives and concerns in play, all eyes are on whether King can match Shah Rukh Khan’s record-breaking run in 2023.
