
Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Deva’ made a trivial 6.5 crores on its first Saturday and looks like the movie is now a disaster at the box office.
The total collections of the movie are around 12 crores in all and it will probably stop at 19 this weekend.

What Shahid had promised he has clearly failed to deliver with the movie. Audiences are disappointed that it is actually copied from a Malayalam film.
Shahid and his director Rosshan Andrrews said multiple times in interviews that ‘Deva’ is not a remake of ‘Mumbai Police’. But turns out it is a frame to frame copy with only a few changes.

‘Mumbai Police’ was directed by Rosshan Andrrews too and starred Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role. Malayalam movies have found a wide viewer base in northern India and people do not want the same stories over and over again.
Audiences have changed a lot after the pandemic and there is a very strong repulsion towards remakes. And if actors and directors are so embarrassed to make a remake that they cannot admit that it is one, why take the effort of making it at all.

Shahid had good success with Kabir Singh and he is doing remake after remake to follow the same track. But it is not going to be the same thing post-covid, and as we have seen movies like Jersey and Deva are not pulling much crowd, stars like him should really refrain from making more copies.
