Vicky Kaushal’s new on-screen project, “Chhaava,” has been creating a buzz at the box office, raising a storm of emotions among the audience.
The period drama has been evoking pride, emotions, and even irritation among the audience—so much so that a video of a man ripping apart a movie screen in rage over Aurangzeb’s portrayal is trending on social media.
Even if the claps for Chhaava are thunderous, and Kaushal’s performance is being hailed as unbelievable, there is one question a critic must ask himself: Is it really his best performance?
Kaushal’s acting in Chhaava is certainly ferocious. His capability to provoke raw, unbridled feelings has enhanced leaps and bounds in making the film a hit. But having a comparison with his work previously, comes a different view.
“Sardar Udham,” a Prime Video film directed by Sujit Sarkar, is more or less generally accepted as Kaushal’s magnum opus. His title role wasn’t acting, though; it was an outburst of free, raw talent that left the people stunned.
Besides, his other remarkable performances in “Raman Raghav 2.0,” “Sam Bahadur,” and “Manmarziyaan” prove his versatility and range as an actor. Each performance is unique for another set of challenges and Kaushal’s capability to totally immerse himself.
Though Chhaava is fine, it falls short of the volcanic intensity of “Sardar Udham.” Kaushal’s performance in Chhaava is better but not the best.
The argument continues, but for most of the fans, “Sardar Udham” is the standard of Vicky Kaushal’s acting skills.
