War 2 from YRF’s Spy Universe is set for release on August 14, but its advance booking numbers are not as strong as expected. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, the film has sold only around 25,000 tickets so far across top cinema chains in India. This is significantly lower compared to earlier spy thrillers from the same franchise, which had far higher pre-release momentum.
Trade analysts had expected War 2 to open above ₹50 crore on its first day, but the current pace suggests it might end up closer to ₹30 crore unless sales rise quickly. With just a few days left before release, the team is banking on a surge in ticket sales to avoid recording the lowest opening in Spy Universe history.
Earlier releases in the franchise have posted strong figures. Ek Tha Tiger opened with ₹32 crore, Tiger Zinda Hai with ₹34 crore, War with ₹51 crore and Tiger 3 with ₹43 crore. Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan leads the chart with a massive ₹55 crore opening. These numbers show the potential of the franchise, but also highlight the pressure on War 2.
There is still hope for a major post-release boost, especially with the Independence Day holiday on August 15. The film could gain strong word-of-mouth and see big jumps in collections if the audience response is positive. Whether War 2 matches the blockbuster openings of its predecessors or ends up as a modest action entertainer will be decided in the coming days.
