Recently, Ynon Kreiz, the CEO of Mattel, discussed the upcoming film tentatively titled Barbie & Friends during an interview with Semafor Business. He indicated that it was still too early to delve into specific details about the movie but suggested that it would differ from Barbie in terms of existential depth.

Kreiz said the movie wouldn’t be strange and that they’re trying a new approach to make it enjoyable, entertaining, and culturally relevant.

Kreiz mentioned that it’s primarily intended for adults, not necessarily with an R-rating, but it will explore the challenges of those in their thirties who grew up with Barney, highlighting the sense of disillusionment within that age group.

Thkigh on paper, Barbie looked like a successful but in reality, it not only excelled in the box office but also stands as the most successful movie of the year. Barney and the entire concept indeed looks interesting as we start waiting for the futher updates regarding the movie.

Mattel has a lineup of other film projects in the works, such as a Hot Wheels movie in collaboration with J.J. Abrams, a Matchbox Cars project partnering with Skydance, a Major Matt Mason film featuring Tom Hanks, and a Polly Pocket movie directed by Lena Dunham, starring Lily Collins. Additionally, there’s a film with Vin Diesel associated with Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots.
