Superhero movies have always been a hot topic of discussion, garnering different opinions with every other person you ask them about. However, one thing that cannot be denied is that the genre has proved its mettle on the big screen by making almost impossible collections and have yet have recently been failing to do so, which has raised worries regarding Marvel’s upcoming release, Deadpool x Wolverine.
These doubts were answered by none other but the CEO of Disney, Bob Iger himself. Opening on argument that audience is going through a ‘superhero movie fatigue’, Iger stated that the fatigue is not to the genre of superhero movies but to bad movies in general. Bob accepted the fact that the recent works of Marvel have not been as exciting as they once were and hence the box office numbers, however Deadpool x Wolverine is a different tale.
Bob said that the audience wants great films and if you build great films, they’ll sell, citing Oppenheimer as a perfect example, calling it a brilliant film. He went on explain the steps that Disney has taken to ensure that the studio comes out of its tough phase, one of which was reducing the number of projects the studio works at a moment, giving them more time and a relaxed atmosphere to make sure that instead of 10 average products they’re able to make 5 brilliant ones.
The Disney CEO also mentioned that he takes great pride in the amount of potential Marvel Cinematic Universe holds and accepted that it is not exaggeration calling them years ahead of all their competitors.
Bob Iger concluded his statement by pointing out the film releases the Disney executuves are especially excited about. To no one’s surprise one of the film making the list Deadpool & Wolverine, which was followed by other promising titles like Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and the animated sequels for Moana and Inside Out.
