A thrilling MonsterVerse movie, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire strikes a balance between a playful Kaiju explosion, like Godzilla VS Kong, and a legendary epic, like Godzilla: King Of The Monsters.
The movie, which is helmed by Adam Wingard, follows Kong and Godzilla as they band together to stop an oppressive ruler from the past from destroying the surface world. While Kong’s plot is more Kong than Godzilla, the humans solve the riddles of the new dominion.
The movie fulfils the dream of audiences who have always desired a MonsterVerse movie: it puts the monsters front and centre and has humans support the plot rather than take the lead.
Godzilla and Kong are two titans that are equally significant to the MonsterVerse story. While Godzilla is created and explored through the world and mythology building of the Titans’ tremendous history and wars, Kong is the main character in the plot.
Although the human characters in the movie—both the new and the old—can be perceived as flat and undeveloped, this doesn’t take away from the entertainment value of the picture. The main human stories of the movie are those of Dr. Andrews (played by Rebecca Hall) and Kaylee Hottles Jia (played by Kaylee Hottles Jia).
A recent arrival to the world, Suko is endearing, amusing, and lively. Tyree, Brian Bernie Hayes, played by Henry, spends a lot of time on screen with Dan Stevens’s rookie character Trapper.
