He even posted a link to a petition signed by over 100,000 fans and fellow actors supporting his cause. This petition mentions that stunt performance is “an important part of the filmmaking that involves a great deal of skill, creativity and courage.
The Academy has failed to respond to the campaign yet, but a few critics have already questioned the feasibility and need for another category. There are those who argue that the Oscars already have too many categories, and that stunt performance is duly covered by the best visual effects and best editing awards already in place.
On the other hand, the actor and his allies argue that stunt performance is a very specific and different form of creative expression that should have its own award category.
