According to a news report, Disney officially dropped Kang’s name from its upcoming movie title and announced it as “Avenger 5”. Following the major event that took place which made Disney and Marvel Studio part their ways with the Kang star Jonathan Majors, despite being a major part of the new wave of Marvel. The appearance of Kang in the upcoming movies is questionable.
Majors didn’t even make another appearance in the Disney series “Loki Season 2”. Not only because of the arrest case, but also based on the less satisfying performance of “Ant Man and The Wasp: Quantumania” which grossed $476M worldwide, The Marvel Studio decided not to focus on Kang the conquerors character.
Keeping a 7 years gap between Marvel’s Endgame” and the upcoming “Avenger 5”, it is a very crucial movie for Marvel. As no other movies or series after “Endgame” gathered the kind of hype Marvel used to receive. Many critics have said that it is a death knell for Marvel. For that reason Marvel is very much dependent on the three upcoming movies, which are “Deadpool and Wolverine” , “Avenger 5” and “ Avengers: Secret Wars” .
So, in order to do that, Marvel has to be very calculative with their decisions. Another mistake can lead to a huge disaster for the whole Studio. So, dropping Kang’s name from the title can be calculated as a very strategic decision.
However, Marvel fandom is very much eager to see what is going to happen next in the new wave. We can expect “Avenger 5” in theatres around March 2026.
