Marvel fans eagerly awaiting the reboot of “Blade” may have to be more patient, as reports indicate that the film’s release could be delayed until 2026. This journey of bringing the iconic vampire hunter back to the big screen has been tediously marked with script rewrites, director changes, and shifting release dates.
Initially believed to be released in November 2023, “Blade” faced delays, pushing the date to September 2024, and most recently, February 14th, 2025. However, entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider now suggests a potential shift in the date resulting 2026 release, given that production has not even started yet.
Last year, it was revealed that the script was undergoing another rewrite. Michael Green took it over from Nic Pizzolatto as the sixth writer tasked with bringing the story to life. Green, known for his work on “Logan,” carries the weight of Marvel boss Kevin Feige’s hopes for the project.
Variety’s report states that Mahershala Ali was initial dissatisfied with the script. However, recent updates indicate that Ali is satisfied with Michael Green’s latest draft, offering hope for the film’s progression.
This “Blade” journey began in 2019 when Mahershala Ali was announced as the next Blade at San Diego Comic-Con. Subsequent challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, hindered the film’s progress, leading to several rewrites of the script and changes of director.
The appointment of French filmmaker Yann Demange as director, replacing Bassam Tariq, signaled another change in the project.
Fans have took the Reddit to share their frustration which this announcement. One suggested, “At this point, just make a kickass Blade Halloween Disney+ special that leads into a Midnight Sons film,” while other expressed scepticism stating, “This is going to be one of those development hell movies that, when it finally releases, makes everyone shrug and say “it was fine.”
The notable thing about the latest report is that contrary to the recent trend of MCU films, Marvel decided to manage the film within a $100 million budget for this film. Additionally, “Blade” is rumoured to get a R rating, considering the character’s dark and mature theme.
