Amidst speculations regarding release of Monkey Man in India, the movie had its international release on Thursday. Dev Patel’s directorial debut battled against horror movie The First Omen and the blockbuster Godzilla x Kong. Monkey Man had a successful preview night and made the second highest sales.
Monkey Man defeated The First Omen to steal the number 2 position at the Box Office on the opening day. It made over $1.4 million on Thursday night while The First Omen managed to make only $725,000. Godzilla x Kong retained the top position at the Hollywood box office.
Monkey Man has got an impressive rating of 88 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. IMDb has rated the film at 7.3 while Metacritic gave it a 71 percent rating. The film has received great reception so far from the critics who loved the action driven drama.
Monkey Man was supposed to hit the Indian screens this April on the 19th. However it is believed that the film has not received clearance from the CBFC so far. Due to its extreme representation of violence and references made to Hindu mythology, it will be very difficult for the movie to get a clearance in the current political scenario.
