Sony Postpones Two Major Films

Sony has once again delayed not one but two movies. This time, along with the already delayed Kraven spinoff ‘Karate Kid’, also got postponed by the studio. The announcement came on Friday regarding the change in plans for the two movies, making the audience wonder what the implications could be.

Let’s talk about Kraven first. Sony’s fourth Spider-Man villain origin story, too, without Spider-Man, had very little credibility to begin with. Given the fact that the last Mobius movie became an internet meme and Sony hilariously took the satire as genuine love from fans, they re-released the movie, making a fool out of themselves. Now they have come up with a male fantasy fuel of a movie that was first delayed from releasing in October 2023 due to SAG-AFTRA strikes and is now being pushed further from August 2024 to December 13. Pitting it against the next “Lord of the Rings” movie.

The next movie on the board is Karate Kid. A nostalgia-fueled movie uniting the two karate kid movies from the 1980s and 2010. While the Cobra Kai series was a direct continuation of the fourth Karate Kid movie, the 2010 movie was a remake. This “miyagi verse” will be explored further with LaRusso and Chan taking another “kid” under their tutelage. This ambitious project is postponed as well. Now the movie will be released on May 30, 2025.

The fact that Sony is postponing the movie over and over again can result in a loss of buzz for its project. The lineup might just end up being a stale meal for the audience and, for the time being, a basis of criticism targeted at the studio.
